Cyclocross Time Trial Turkey Trot

Since we could not hold our annual club ride to the South Bay, race captain and cross rider extraordinaire Sam Selfridge set up a very cool cross course at the south end of Marina Del Rey near the lagoon. Please enjoy the video and the photos from the day, which was also held to accept donations for Meals on Wheels.

Please Meet Ruby Issac

I came across this article in Bicycling Magazine about Ruby Issac. She is 12-years-old. If you have not heard about her, you will want to. She will make you smile, and make you want to go out and ride your bike ride…with a smile. https://www.bicycling.com/culture/a34599627/riding-bikes-with-ruby-isaac/

20th Annual Meals on Wheels Donation Drive

Our Annual Meals on Wheels Donation Drive had to be a little bit different for 2020. Well, everything is different for 2020. We did not hold the usual Thanksgiving Day ride down to the South Bay due to the pandemic but members set up two donation tables over two days so members could fuel and hydrate social-distance style and make a donation to Meals on Wheels. LG members are amazing and rose to the occasion by raising over $4,000, which will be matched! Thank you to all that were able to contribute. 🤗 💙

La Grange is Back on the Road!

COVID has put a damper on racing but that doesn’t mean we have to leave the LG land yacht in dry dock. The La Grange van is back on the road this Sunday, November 8th. Look for us at San Vicente and Ocean in Santa Monica starting at 7 am. We’ll hang out a while. Drop by pre or post-ride for refreshments or to just say “hi.” We will be observing social distancing and have plenty of hand sanitizer to keep everyone safe and healthy! Hope to see ya there!

Diversity in Cycling

We continue to feature articles about diversity in cycling. This article appeared in Bicycling Magazine last month. It is a worthwhile read. https://www.bicycling.com/culture/a34345760/mandem-cycling-club/

SOS: Support Our Sponsors

We are proud to feature GoodPeople, who is our new coffee sponsor. They are located on the north side of Santa Monica Blvd. just a few storefronts west of Federal in West Los Angeles. They have a 3,000 square foot patio behind the coffee shop, which is a perfect “clubhouse” for La Grangers to gather after every ride…especially after the World Famous Sunday Nichols Ride. 🚴‍♂️ 🚴‍♀️ ☕️

This is a pano of the 3,000 square foot patio behind GoodPeople. They are allowing us to place bike hooks in the cinder wall to enable us to have bike parking. Please click this link to see the full size pano.

New CA Bicycle License Plate

The Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing the California bicycle license plate after collecting 7,500 pre-paid applications.

Your purchase of the California Bike Plate will generate grants to promote cycling as a physical activity, fund bike skill development and nutrition education at the elementary school level and create safe places to ride through cycling advocacy. Grants will also support earn-a-bike programs for at-risk youth, middle and high school programs, promote bicycles as transportation and conduct safety and share the road education programs for drivers and cyclists. Grants will be available to statewide coalitions, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, county health departments and other organizations.

Plus if 60 or more La Grange members order plates, then La Grange can be recognized as an official “Bike For A Healthy California” sponsor. Let’s support safe cycling in California!

Please visit calbikeplate.com to learn more!

La Grange Solo Cup Results

The first (and hopefully) only La Grange Solo Cup has concluded. And the winners are: Everyone who participated. Ok, ok. The overall winners are Tina Grant, and Sam Selfridge. Congratulations! And, to make you feel like a real slacker, Sam completed all three segments in the same day. Now get out and ride your bike to be like Tina and Sam! Huge thank you to Emily Conant, Tina Grant, and Jaycee Cary for their time and creativeness for putting together such a great event.
