In
Memory of Scott Bleifer
On the morning of Saturday,
September 10, 2005, Scott Bleifer and Stanislav Ionov
were cycling westbound on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The placement of K-Rails
on the white line separating the roadway from the shoulder
for a construction project forced the two cyclists off
the shoulder and into the roadway where they were struck
and killed by a catering truck 3/4 mile west of Malibu
Canyon Road.
More than 400 local riders
gathered for a 40 mile ride organized
by La Grange last October to honor the memories of these
two fallen riders.
The Union Bank of California,
where Scott worked as a Vice President, donated $25,000
to La Grange to establish an educational scholarship program
in honor of Scott Bleifer.
La Grange is attempting
to increase this amount to at $50,000 so that annual scholarship
awards can me made indefinitely. We will give out the
interest we hope to earn. La Grange has raised an additional
$3,500 from proceeds from the Cedars-Sinai Grand Prix
raffle as well as from donations from generous club members
and others.
Karen Bleifer (Scotts
sister) has expressed her wish that contributions be made
to the Scott Bleifer Scholarship fund.
