NOMINEES

Jeff Tuttle |
"Both great guys who
represent the club in the best light possible. Committed,
caring, and love to race. Every conversation with these guys
involves a smile." [Other 'guy' is ineligible -ed.]

Patrick J. Canale"It
was great watching him work out of the 4's into the 3's. One
day my wife and I were doing Mandeville repeats and saw
Jeff. He was doing the same only at a faster pace. He
stopped climbed w. me for a while answered some questions
about upgrading. He has always been positive at the races.
As a club that focuses on "racing tradition" he embodies
that vision."
- Chris London
"He's a cool
representative of the race team and winner of the LG cup
GC!"
-
Cathy Keeley
"I'm pleased to nominate
Jeff Tuttle for this year's La Granger of the Year award.
Here we have a gifted, competitive yet selfless individual
that merits recognition.
As a racer, Jeff has steadily moved up the categories and is
currently representing La Grange in the Cat 3 field. A few
recent additions to his resume include the La Grange Cup GC
Champion and 6th place in the Cat 3's at Everest Challenge
with a impressive time of 11:03. Deep inside he's focused on
going after the win with a strong sense of determination.
But on the outside he displays a great sense of humor and
willingness to help his teammates at every race. He doesn't
just want to succeed, he wants the entire team to succeed.
Jeff also regularly contributes to the club in ways the
general club member may not always notice. He is not afraid
to express his concerns about club issues and then takes
action to help resolve them. To me, this is just as
important as what he does on the race course. He always
shows his appreciation for the club and gives back to it
whenever he can whether it be at a board meeting, training
ride or club event. I'm grateful to have Jeff as fellow
teammate and representative of this club."

John Mailloux |
"John has stepped up to
take on the HUGE responsibility of clothing coordinator for
La Grange. Many people do not realize the immense amount of
work that is entailed in doing so for a club of our size,
let alone the difference to the bottom line of our budgets.
Since John is not (yet) a member of the board, he's eligible
for La Granger of the year, and I'd like to nominate him to
give him some recognition."

Neil Leventhal |
"Very simply Neil was
the person most responsible for the success of the 2011
Brentwood Grand Prix. He created and oversaw the new website
for BGP and his incredible determination to make the event
profitable by controlling expenses and bringing in sponsors
was the difference that made the event a success. He was
tireless in working with the retailers to make them happy
and get them to participate. Neil's desire to bring in a new
title sponsor was what got LAcarGuy on board as the title
sponsor. This was Neil's fourth year working on the BGP and
it is time he is recognized for what he has accomplished and
the time and effort he has given on behalf of our club."
- Jay Slater
"Honorable mention goes to
the team captains:
- Joe Pugliese for
again organizing the Solvang team camp and serving as
the Cat 3/4/5 captain.
- Nick Brandeau and
Drew Kogon for starting a Juniors team.
- Lisa Buckland and Amy
Hutner for running the women’s teams.
- Special mention goes
to John Mailloux for taking on and taming the gigantic
clothing beast. He has been instrumental in taking this
to another level.
My pick for La Granger of
the Year is hands down Neil Leventhal. Neil is one of those
rare members who started to give back to the club almost
immediately upon joining. Neil has done a TON of work for
the club for the past 6-7 years, including serving on the
board.
He has consistently been part of the handful of members that
perform most of the heavy lifting to make BGP such a success
and this year’s championship event was the best it’s been."
-
Richard Kim
"Every once in awhile a
club member steps up to the plate and immerses himself in a
project they are truly passionate about. Club member Bill
Pitcher did this in 2006 when he spent countless hours
gathering video footage for what would eventually become a
short film about La Grange that we presented to club founder
Raymond Fouquet.
This year, Neil Leventhal was a virtual one-man show in
making the Brentwood Grand Prix happen. For anyone who knows
the work involved, Neil's contributions were huge. For this
and his passion to make BGP the classiest, most upscale bike
race in SoCal, I am nominating Neil Leventhal for La Granger
of the Year."

Alan Bub |
"Great person and very
helpful."

Amy Hutner |
"As the Women's Team
Director, Amy has led a very large group of women including
a VERY successful Women's Elite team. She works closely with
the team captains to assure the groups are organized and
resourced by the club for racing and training. Amy has been
a contributor to the club for years and epitomizes what it
means to be a team player and an athlete."
- Lisa Papworth-Buckland |

Melina Bernecker |
"2 gold at State
championship and bronze, more points at SCNCA and Australian
double gold medalist and silver. Awesome member of La Grange
'11."

Quinn Hatfield |
"A long-time member of
LG, Quinn's dedication to the club is reflected in many
facets:
Off the bike Quinn is an active champion for the sport of
Track Cycling. Encouraging to other members and non-cyclists
alike, Quinn has offered time, support and advice. In
addition, he consistently supports both the club and
community (he's a sponsor of the Encino Velodrome) via
donations from his world-class restaurant.
On the bike, Quinn leads by example. Working with Elite
coaches he trains long hours, late into the night. Quinn's
accomplishments are extremely impressive (and FAST!). He
holds multiple bear jerseys, and has consecutive appearances
at the highest domestic levels of our sport. In 2010 and
2011 Quinn had competitive showings at the Elite National
Track Championships in the Kilo. LG is an amateur racing
club and Quinn's results and performance are the ideal to
which fellow club members and racers aspire. His work ethic
and achievements are more impressive when considered in
tandem with a demanding schedule as a Father and business
owner.
Please consider Quinn Hatfield for 2011 La Granger of the
Year."

Tom FitzGibbon |
"There are several
people who immediately come to my mind when thinking about
the people who have made tremendous contributions to the
Velo Club La Grange. First of all, I have to acknowledge
each of my fellow Board members, who all donate huge amounts
of time and energy to Club matters. However, Board members
are not eligible for the La Granger of the Year Award. But,
there are other club members who have volunteered and
contributed to the Club in extraordinary ways.
Our 2011 Brentwood Grand Prix was our Club's most successful
race on many levels. No one can ignore the tremendous amount
of work that Neil Leventhal devoted to the Club this year in
leading the Brentwood Grand Prix Organizing Committee. John
Mailloux stepped forward this past year and assumed the
onerous responsibilities of reorganizing and handling our
Club's Clothing Department. Now, the ordering and
distribution of our clothing have been vastly improved. I am
continually impressed by the camaraderie, friendship and
successes of our Cat 3, 4 and 5 racers and give much credit
for that "esprit de corps" to their captain, Joe Pugliese.
Along with others I may have failed to mention, Neil, John
and Joe are very deserving of our Club's recognition and
special thanks and any of them would be a very worthy and
deserving recipient of the La Granger of the Year Award.
However, with great respect, gratitude and admiration to
Neil, John and Joe, I am nominating Tom FitzGibbon for this
year's La Granger of the Year.
For many years, Tom has been very generous to La Grange,
giving substantial amounts of his time, energy, money and
expertise to the Club despite having tremendous personal and
professional commitments. Tom was a member of the Board of
Directors and our Club's Race Director for many years and
has continued to be very actively involved with SCNCA, our
racing program and our Brentwood Grand Prix. During my brief
tenure on the Board, I have witnessed Tom volunteer his time
and legal expertise to assist the Club with various legal
matters, including drafting sponsorship agreements,
insurance coverage matters, and brilliantly quashing a
subpoena directed at the Club from Dr. Thompson's attorneys.
Tom has always made himself available to me for any
questions or advice about sponsorship or legal matters.
For many years, Tom was not eligible for consideration for
La Granger of the Year because he was a member of the Board
of Directors. He is now eligible and very deserving of your
consideration and vote.
Thanks for reading."
