Marianne Frostig founded the Frostig
Center in 1951. She was one of the early pioneers in the field of
learning disabilities. Learning disabilities impact as much as 10
percent of the population. The Center has a three-part mission- direct
service, training and research. Our school program serves students
who have severe learning disabilities. Our research department is
nationally known for its work in understanding predictors of success for
individuals with learning disabilities. Our training department provides
teacher training and support to over 1,000 teachers annually. Our
school was one of the early innovators in the use of assistive technology
to help students by-pass their areas of difficulty. Our students have
dyslexia, disgraphia, visual-perception problems, auditory processing problems,
as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and social skills difficulties
related to their learning problems. Over 90 percent of our students
graduate from high school. Over 75% go on to post-secondary educational
or vocational programs.
