Each
year, the members (that's YOU)
of Velo Club La Grange nominate and choose
an outstanding member to receive the award of
La
Granger of the Year.
This
award acquires its prestige by being from you,
the members of Velo Club La Grange. And it's
about people who have benefited you. So think
a bit about your vote. Think of those who have
made truly valuable contributions to better
the club for you over the past year, those who
have gone out of their way for the club. Include
efforts made on and off the bike - the deserving
member who has served the club, represented
the club positively, and enhanced the club experience
for you and other members.
La
Grange Board of Directors are ineligible for
this award.

Seanne Biggs
|
"She
spearheaded the 'USCF Club of the Year'
effort and made it a reality. I believe that this
really boosted our image in the cycling community
as well as the community at large. It was also
long deserved recognition for our great club after
a nearly 40-year history."
-
Joanne Ratinoff
"We
all wear the "Club Of The Year" badge with pride.
Seanne had the idea that we should have that title.
She worked incredibly hard with everyone to get
the information she needed to create the stellar
proposal which won the title. It's a top podium
finish for us all."

Matt Davis
|
"Team
leader by example. He is the glue that helped
so many guys get to the CAT 3's."
-
Jonathan Tessler
"Outstanding
leadership as Director Sportif of the 4/5 team!!!"
-
Brad Gavigan
"Matt
has worked tirelessly to organize, motivate and
encourage the 3/4/5 team, who are a large, rowdy
bunch. He's selflessly given his time to the club,
acted as an intermediary between team members
and the board, and been laudably diplomatic and
positive throughout. ."

Bill Birrell
|
"For
his unselfish acts helping the masters team in
coaching and helping organize the games in long
beach. Bill has made sure that all the master
riders had what they needed advice training equipment
and support. I am honored to nominate Bill."
-
John Velez
"Unselfish
devotion of time and energy to furthering the
development of cyclists within in the Club. Particular
emphasis on Grand Masters even though he is not
yet in that age category."

Josh Horowitz

"I
know that Josh has his own team and does not usually
race for La Grange, but I think he is a huge resource
for the club, and there is no doubt that he does
a tremendous amount for the good of the club.
He is the biggest (only?) reliable resource for
coaching and training advice within the club,
organizes the terrific Mandeville Canyon TT's
during the winter, and is the only person I know
of who has conducted skills clinics."

Rob Rasner
|
"A
REAL class act. Founder of the Grand Masters.
Stepped in to organize the California State Senior
Olympics in Long Beach. Has motivated more new
racers in the club than anyone else I know. Raced
his heart out (after 3 months off the bike) in
Nevada against a very Strong team from Canada
that might keep him from qualifying for nationals."
-
Bill Birrell
"He
has worked tirelessly, even during a period of
health problems of his own, to put together, nuture,
and assure success, of a new team of LaGrangers,
the Grand Masters, 7 of whom will compete nationally
in August in the United States Senior Olympics,
surely one the the largest single-club continencies
that will be present. He is selfless and kind,
inspirational and brilliant as a rider."

"One
of the qualities making us such a great, strong
club is the number of people worthy of being La
Granger of the Year. If anyone embodies the true
spirit of "La Granger" in an ongoing and broad-mannered
way, it would be our own Bob Rasner.
There
are two basic and straight-forward reasons I nominate
Bob. He continues to "selflessly" throw himself,
his time and resources toward helping to make
our club's numerous efforts, venues and events
possible and successful. His history of service
and support to La Grange go well beyond this year.
This is in addition to his being a central player
in our public policy and safety efforts. Add to
all this -- his groundbreaking creation and effective
captaining of the La Grange Grand Masters team
-- a true inspiration for all of us and to cycling
for years to come! A true legacy and a growing
milestone for La Grange!
The
second reason is his endless demonstration of
character that represents and models La Grange
in the highest of light. It reflects experienced
leadership. I, along with so many others, witness
how his clear-thinking integrity and his friendly
and cool-handed manner commands respect -- on
and off the bike! He's a team player and consensus
builder who supports "everyone" -- "everyone"
achieving a personal best! His performance on
the bike continues to impress us. We've all grown
up hearing the statement "Imitation is the best
compliment." One morning at Peet's, I overheard
an LGr say "When I grow up, I want to be Bob Rasner!"
Heads nodded in agreement. That says it all!"

Jay Slater
|
"Besides
all of the work he did in assisting the Board
on Public Policy matters, Jay was one of the main
organizers of the Brentwood Grand Prix and headed
up the Piauma Hill Climb and also was the organizer
of the Tuesday JV rides and other rides handling
the notices to club members and orchestrating
what routes would be used on Thursday and Saturday
rides. His commitment to the Club this year was
just unstinting and outstanding."
-
Gene Hines
"1.
For his vital role in the Brentwood Grand Prix.
He conceived the idea, followed through on it,
did much of the leg work to pull it off, was out
there on the day erecting barriers, etc., and
finally is doing the necessary follow up to facilitate
a repeat for 2009.
2. In addition he does a lot of good will for
cycling not just for La Grange but for the cycling
community as a whole."

Marc Thomas
|
"Marc
is willing to help you out at the drop of a hat
no matter what your issue may be. He worked selflessly
to put on one of the highlight races of the year
at Brentwood. He manages to have one of the best
attitudes in the entire club despite probably
crashing the most as well :) He is always more
concerned for others than he is for himself. The
guy exemplifies everything a "team mate" stands
for."
-
Stratton Easter
"Because
he made the leap, and said, "I will take on the
La Grange Brentwood Grand Prix volunteer corps"
Because he brought in major prizes for the BGP.
Because he races for the the club, and is always
a smiling face on the morning rides. Because his
tireless commitment to our great race this year
he has laid the foundation for years to come.
I nominate Ramrod!"
-
Seanne Biggs
"Marc
Thomas put more hours on the ground into the success
of the Brentwood Grand Prix than any other LaGranger.
He is involved not only as a racer but as a rider
enjoying the sport and building cycling safety
in Los Angeles."
-
Byron Smith
"Marc
exemplifies what it means to be a team player.
Whether it be in a race, a club ride, or organizing
the Brentwood Grand Prix. In races I have seen
Marc give up food, water bottles, and wheels to
needy team mates. In club rides, Marc is always
a positive voice amongst riders around him. And
during the Brentwood Grand Prix, Marc worked around
the clock to make sure the race came off as well
as it did. "
-
Jason Dodge
"Selfless
and tireless involvement and leadership in a very
successful Grand Prix. Many others were involved,
but the event would not have been the same without
his. A workhorse on the race course, helping many
of his teammates upgrade to Cat3. "
-
Gary Zimble
"His
work on the BGP. Plus, anyone else who got it
together who is eligible for the award. "
